Since we haven't success to get any simulation result, we seeking for help from our lecturer. Finally, we managed to find our lecturer and ask him about this. After listening to his detailed explanation, we try to do the simulation again.
The deadline for this mini project just left few days, so we decided to divide the works. Mei Leng will do the simulation for the circuit while Hafizan will try to construct the circuit. Now, a different problem occur for the simulation. So, i decided to search for relevant information and solve the problem by myself before ask the lecturer tomorrow. Hafizan managed to construct the complete circuit today, but the circuit can't function well. However, in the process constructing the circuit, he faced some problems. For example, both of us have no idea about how to connect the switch to the circuit. As a solution, we go to the JKEES Electronics Component Office to ask about the component. The officier gave us detailed explaination about the component.

Prepare Presentation Slide And Report
Today, we try to simulate the circuit again. Before that, we have searching some relevant information from internet. We study those information and then try to simulate the circuit again. Problems keep on poping out, we still can't get the simulation result. We have no choice, we have to wait until Monday and ask our lecturer about it.

Prepare Presentation Slide And Report
The lab was closed on weekends. We can't constrct our circuit in the lab. So, we discuss and prepare our presentation slides and report for the project. Hafizan will prepare the presentation slides while Mei Leng is preparing the report. However, we can't complete even one of them, because we haven't get any result.
Besides, we also tried to simulate the circuit again. However, we failed to get any simulation result.

Constructing Circuit at JKEES Second Year Lab
After we finished our class, we go to find our lecturer, unfortunately he is not around. So, we decided to construct our circuit in the lab first. Unfortunately, the lab was closed today. Well, we can't do anything else. So, we find a place and discuss about our project. We tried to figure out what is the problem that occur when we doing our simulation and we tried to do the simulation again. However, we failed again.
At afternoon, we heard that the lab will be open at 2.30pm. So, we decided to construct our circuit there. Due to restricted time, we only able to construct half way of our project circuit.

Study the circuit,components and doing simulation for the circuit
Following our schedule, we have to study about the components used in the circuit and doing simulation of the circuit. So, we decided to divided the works. Mei Leng will study about the components while Hafizan will try to simulate the circuit using Circuit Maker 2000.
Components that we use in the long duration timer circuit are resistors, capacitors, dual timer 556 and 7493 counter.
I have find some relevant information about dual timer 556 from internet. Dual timer 556 constructed from two 555 timers in a 14 pins DIL package. The figure below shows the dual timer 556.
On the other hand, i also study the 7493 counter. Figure below shows the shematic diagram of 7493 counter.
Hafizan is trying to simulate the circuit today. However, some errors existed. He can't get the simulation result. One of the problem is we can't find the switch component in Circuit Maker 2000. Due to this problem, we can't get the simulation result. So, we decide to seek for help from our lecturer tomorrow.

Question 2 : Long Duration Timer
Problem Statement :
Nowadays, power saving is a hot issue in the elecrical and electronics field. The problem now is how can we save power? Can we set the devices to turn off automatically after certain period of time? Due to the electrical and electronics technology development today, we can make it. By constructing a long duration timer circuit, we can switch OFF a particular device after certain period of time. This circuit can be used to switch OFF devices like radio, TV, fan, pump etc after a preset time. Such a circuit can surely save a lot of power.

We get the components that we need in order to construct the long duration timer circuit from JKEES 2nd Year Lab. We planned and arrange a schedule for us to complete this challenging mini project. We have study the long duration timer circuit given and find some relevant information. Then, we come out with the problem statement/objectives of this mini project.

- Study on the question given, a long duration timer.
- Identify the main objective of this project.
1st October 2009
- Study on the components used to construct the circuit. For example, 556 timer and 7493 IC.
- Simulate he circuit using Circuit Maker 2000.
2nd October 2009
- Construct the circuit in JKEES Second Year Lab.
- Compare the result obtain with the simuation result. If the results are same, then can start the soldering work. Otherwise, identify the problem occured and try to do correction on the circuit.
3rd October 2009
- Prepare presentation slides and report for project.
4th October 2009

5th October 2009
